Founded in 2001, Moodle has relied on partners (there’s currently 84 of them) to generate funds for the central project by paying royalties, but Martin Dougiamas, founder and CEO of Moodle Pty Ltd, have now succumbed to an outside investor, with France based Education for the Many, injecting $6m dollars into the company.

Totara Learning has released Totara Learn 10, the latest version of its open source learning management software and the first release to bear the new Totara Learn product name replacing the previous Totara LMS name.

Blackboard have released "Future Forward: The Next Twenty Years of Higher Education", which pulls together a series of interviews with American higher education leaders.

HEFCE, Jisc, the Wellcome Trust and Research Councils UK (RCUK) are working in partnership to enhance their understanding of how the higher education sector is meeting funders' open access policies.

The survey is intended to complement, and not duplicate or replace, existing open access reporting processes, and will seek to understand:

  • to what extent HEIs are meeting the funder requirements
  • tools used by the sector
  • repository use
  • staff costs associated with open access
  • repository metadata and licences.

The analysis of this survey will be published in winter 2017.

The shortlist of nominees for the 2017 Learning Technologies Awards has been published, with projects and products from across the globe being among those included within the 24 categories.

A quick count reveals there are 182 projects / suppliers making the cut in this years list which was whittled down by a panel of over 40 independent judges organised by the eLearning Network.

Titled as a guide to sharing your knowledge and creativity with the world, and sustaining your operation while you do, the authors, Paul Stacey and Sarah Hinchliff have written a book showing the world how sharing can be good for business — but with a twist.
